Beyond the Four Walls of Home

For this blog post I'm going beyond the walls of the home and into designing for the outdoors, office spaces, restaurants, hotels, lounges etc.  I saw so many different kinds of furniture and decor items during the design events in New York City this month that I wanted to not only focus on decorating for the home but also include design ideas for commercial spaces as well.

Let's go on a make believe trip following a cool urban business woman throughout her work day as we focus on the furniture she is surrounded by wherever she goes.  Starting at home...

Small space living is easy when you have this beautiful and versatile furniture around.  The luxe home office desk (in the top left photo below) turns into the large dining room table on the right just by adding those three pieces leaning up against the window (see desk pic). She can easily tuck the unused pieces in the closet when she needs her desk, then whip them out and put it together when having a dinner party.  Same goes for seating. All of the bench pieces in the bottom photo fit neatly into the small middle section to create a footstool when relaxing at home after a long and busy day.

Next she heads to the office where we can see the modern and comfortable seating in the waiting area out front.  Who wouldn't mind sitting on these fab benches while chatting with the receptionist?

Oooo, as we walk into the actual office area (see photos below) notice the walls, furniture and lighting are all made of paper! Each wall piece can be maneuvered in various ways to form storage spaces, cubicles, or hidden nooks.  The possibilities are endless.  Check out the Molo website to see different ways to use these amazing pieces.

After the meeting we're off to lunch at the local cafe.  This unique table is perfect for seating multiple people.  Just add stools and we can create either a private lunch for two at each petal or a communal and social experience with a larger group gathered all around.

After a long day at work we're headed to happy hour at a new hip hotel.  Look at these gorgeous furniture options for either the lobby or the hotel lounge area.

The key to this hotel/lounge furniture is that the seating looks beautiful and inviting from every angle.  Front, side, or back, it makes you want to sit back and enjoy.

Now let's take a peek into one of the guest rooms at this chic hotel.  The vanity, desk and shelving units are perfect for any modern, luxe hotel room.  FYI, the shelves swivel around, so each piece is like a moving sculpture.

Finally we head up to the rooftop deck to sit back and have a cocktail.  The furniture below is perfect for indoor or outdoor lounging.

The pieces below would make the perfect corner seating area in any outdoor space.  The "stones" are actually comfy seating made of felt.

Also on the rooftop deck is this whimsical throne.  A couple of these seats would brighten up any outside area.  The perfect spot to sit back and look good while enjoying the rest of the evening.
